Tsukimi is one of the well recoginised Japanese traditional festivals, known as “moon viewing”, honouring the beautiful moon and celebrate and pray for the autumn harvest.
Tsukimi takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar since it is believed to be the brightest and most beautiful on this night due to dropping the tempature causes clear sky at night in Autumn.
That day is Tuesday, September 17th.
In Japan, there is a custom of decorating the room with Japanese pampas grass and dumplings during the moon viewing festival. Japanese pampas grass is displayed in front of the storehouse. The family crest, known as the “kamon,” is modeled after the moon. Please take a look.
