Recommended sake by the young proprietress
ohoro GIN (standard)
Introducing the sake recommended by the young proprietress. Last time, Osa Winery’s “Otate Wine” was very popular. I was wondering if I should go with wine again this time, and I found a really delicious drink. In Japanese culture, sake is the common style at soba restaurants. If you’re Japanese, you might think it’s unusual for a soba restaurant to serve gin. As a new attempt, I tried offering gin at a soba restaurant.
A few years ago, the owner of a nearby pub told me, “I hear that Hakkaisan is going to be making whiskey in Niseko next time.” At that time, I received a small bottle of whiskey. This is what gave me the opportunity to find out.
Hakkaisan Sake Brewery in Niigata Prefecture, famous for its sake, established a brewery in Niseko, Hokkaido in February 2019. The first whiskey will be brewed in March 2021, and gin distillation will begin in April. “ohoro GIN” was born in the midst of a new challenge in the great nature of Niseko Annupuri.
“ohoro” means “to continue” in the Ainu language of Hokkaido’s indigenous people. It is our hope that this gin, which was born in the northern land, will be loved by many people and continue into the future.
Enjoy the clean scent of the locally grown rare plant sweet gale. Balanced mint mixes with quality water. When you put it in your mouth, it has a pleasant refreshing taste that enhances the taste of the dish.
The finish is clear and smooth, yet has a strong core flavor with a light citrus scent. This is a cup that you should try not only carbonated, but also on the rocks.
